Three ways to help children with CDA 💗
Give blood, register as a bone marrow donor or make a financial donation: every action counts. Choose the one that suits you — we'll explain everything simply.
🩸
Blood donation
Behind every bag of blood, there is a donor.

Children with CDA may need regular transfusions. Every bag comes from someone who took a little of their time to help a stranger.
But your donation also helps many other patients who need transfusions:
🩸 blood disorders: leukemia, sickle cell disease, thalassemia
🎗️ people being treated for cancer
🚑 accident victims, surgery, difficult births
In France, around 10,000 donations are needed every day. A single donation can help several patients.

How does a donation work?
1
Check-in
Registration and a health questionnaire. Come feeling well, after eating and drinking.
2
Interview
A short, confidential chat with a doctor or nurse.
3
Donation
About 10 minutes, sitting comfortably.
4
Snack
A short rest and a free snack before you leave.
The EFS (French blood service) website lists blood drives near you, by town or postcode.
🧬
Bone marrow donation
Little known, often feared… and yet much simpler than you might think.
For some serious blood diseases, a stem cell transplant can be a treatment. But a compatible donor still has to be found — and that's where you come in.
3 myths to forget
✗ MYTH
“They take it from your spine.”
✓ IN FACT
Bone marrow has nothing to do with the spinal cord. It makes blood and is found inside bones, such as the pelvis.
✗ MYTH
“It's always major surgery.”
✓ IN FACT
In 8 out of 10 cases, the donation is made from the blood, like a long blood donation, with no anesthetic.
✗ MYTH
“Signing up is complicated.”
✓ IN FACT
An online questionnaire, then a saliva kit sent to your home (or a blood test). That's it.
If you're ever a match: 2 ways to donate
80%
From the blood
A few days of injections stimulate the stem cells, which are then collected through your arm, like a long blood donation lasting a few hours. No anesthetic: you go home the same day.
20%
From the pelvic bone
The cells are collected from the pelvic bone (not the spine) under a short general anesthetic, with a brief hospital stay. The marrow then regenerates on its own.
A 1 in a million chance
That's the probability of finding a compatible donor outside your own family. The more people sign up, the better the chances for patients.

you can change your mind
Being registered doesn't mean you will donate: you'll only be contacted if you're a match for a patient.
