What does bone marrow actually do?

🦴 What is bone marrow for?
Bone marrow is found inside our bones. You can think of it as a real factory that makes our blood cells.
It mainly produces three big families of cells:
đź”´ Red blood cells, which carry oxygen throughout the body and keep our organs supplied with oxygen.
⚪ White blood cells, which are part of our immune defenses and help us fight off viruses and germs.
🩸 Platelets, which play an essential role in blood clotting and help limit bleeding.
Once made in the bone marrow, these cells enter the bloodstream and are carried throughout the body.
👉 So bone marrow is essential: it is the factory that produces many of the cells our blood needs to work properly.
And that is exactly why it plays a central role in some blood diseases, such as CDA, since red blood cells are made in the bone marrow. đź©·
